Often, even though we know what’s causing us stress, we don’t take action to change things.
Some people know exactly what they need to do to improve their health, but still don’t take action.
Many of us dream of an easier, stress free life, and know exactly what we want, but still don’t take action!
Do you start off the new year feeling motivated to change things?
You have an abundance of drive and determination, and begin by taking massive action. Only to lose it all by the third week of January!
As soon as you realise that getting results takes consistent action and discipline, it all starts to get tough.
You begin to feel totally overwhelmed and give up on everything!
What should you do?
The first thing you should do when this happens, is not beat yourself up about it; be kind to yourself!
It’s easy to think long term, and to come up with a vision that inspires you. For example, the vision of a stress-free life and a happier, healthier you.
Sticking to the action you need to take, to get to that place, takes time and effort. And it’s quite natural to want to feel better instantly.
But I have news for you…
A life that good doesn’t happen overnight!
It takes effort and responsibility on your part; no-one else can do it for you.
But believe me, when you get it right, which is easier than you think, life becomes amazing!
So, what’s the secret?
The secret to your success is baby steps…everyday…in the right direction.
It’s important to understand the knock-on effects of not taking at least one small step whenever you’re feeling like you want to give up. Even if it’s just finding another, better, way to do something.
The secret is finding the small steps that will make the most positive difference to how you feel.
And those baby steps need to be across all areas of your lifestyle, including:
It’s also a good idea not to introduce too many changes all at once. Master a few at a time, allowing those to become natural before moving onto other new habits or changes.
It’s surprising how quickly even seemingly big changes can become simple habits in a very short time.
It’s like learning to drive a car. At first, there are many things you consciously have to think about and do. And you feel like you’ll never get it!
Before pulling away from a parking position, you:
- Ensure all your passengers have their seatbelts on
- Check the car is in neutral
- Start the engine
- Check all mirrors
- Look over your shoulder
- Put the car into Drive or first gear
- Check all is clear again
- Pull out of the parking space, etc. etc.
If you’re a driver, you will know that eventually all this becomes a habit, which becomes totally natural. You hardly have to think about each action, you just do them easily.
However, without following all of the steps, every time, you will not achieve your goal of driving off.
Changing your life for the better is exactly the same process as learning to drive.
Whether it be:
- Reducing or eliminating stress
- Eating more healthily
- Becoming fitter
- Losing weight
- Improving relationships
- Changing careers
Although following the right steps feels overwhelming at first, in a short time you’ll hardly notice you’re doing them. And you’ll soon forget how you used to live your old stressful life.
A LITTLE WARNING
It’s easy to start getting complacent when you’re feeling good and things are going well. You start to let the odd healthy habit slide here and there.
Your energy levels are good, you feel invincible and start tipping the balance from good habits to not so good. Like during holidays or when you have an unexpected increased workload.
It’s ok to tip the balance a bit for short periods of time. But if left unchecked for too long you will almost certainly reverse all the good work you’ve done already.
Of course, it’s ok to relax the reins a bit at times. But whilst you do, you must always avoid doing anything that will jeopardise your progress.
Some of the rewards for taking action everyday are:
- Being able to prevent life’s challenges from taking over your life.
- Better health.
- Happier days.
- Stronger relationships.
- An easier life.
- Achieving the life of your dreams!
